About Bakery Packaging

Keeping Baked Goods Fresh From Oven to Customer

You've spent hours on your bake. The wrong packaging can undo it in minutes - crusty sourdough going soft, pastries drying out, cakes arriving damaged. We supply films, bags, and paper products for bakeries of all sizes, from artisan producers to large-scale commercial operations.

Packaging That Works as Hard as You Do

Crusty sourdough that goes soft in the bag. Film that won’t run properly on your L sealer. Pastries that dry out before they reach the customer. Bags that arrive three weeks after you needed them. Chasing your supplier for a technical data sheet. Chasing again for their BRCGS certificate the week before your audit.

If you’ve been buying bakery packaging for any length of time, you’ve probably dealt with all of these. The gap between what suppliers promise and what actually happens can be frustrating - especially when your reputation depends on products arriving fresh and your auditor needs paperwork yesterday.

We’re a UK manufacturer supplying bakeries of all sizes - from artisan producers to large-scale commercial operations. We convert and print films and bags under one roof in Gloucestershire, which means we control quality and can actually help when something isn’t working. When you call, you speak to people who understand bakery packaging - not a distributor reading from a product sheet.

Films for L Sealers

L sealers are workhorses in bakeries - simple, reliable machines that wrap products quickly. If yours isn’t performing as well as it should, the film is usually the first thing to check.

We stock centre-folded BOPP film in popular sizes ready for dispatch - 500/250mm, 600/300mm, 700/350mm widths on 76mm cores, 1,000 metres per roll. For sizes we don’t stock, lead time is typically 3-4 weeks.

For bread and products that come off the line warm, perforated film lets steam escape without softening the crust. P160 microperforation is what most bakeries use for crusty bread - small enough to keep contamination out, open enough to let moisture vapour through.

Flow Wrap Film

For bakeries running flow wrap machines, we supply single wound BOPP film reels in various widths and gauges. Clear, seals well, good shelf presentation. We stock common sizes, with custom widths made to order.

Plain film for products that need protection. Perforated film for products that need to breathe. Anti-fog coating for products going into chilled display cabinets - stops condensation obscuring your bakes.

Ovenable Film for Part-Baked Products

Part-baked bread and bake-at-home rolls need packaging that goes straight into the oven. PET ovenable film handles temperatures up to 220°C - the product goes from freezer or chiller to oven without repackaging.

This is standard for airline catering, where bread rolls are baked on board in their packaging. Also used by food service operations, hotels, and retailers selling bake-at-home products. The film is typically perforated to let steam escape during baking.

We supply ovenable PET film as bags or reels, plain or printed. If you’re supplying part-baked products to airlines or food service, we can match your existing specifications or help develop new ones.

Bread Bags

Side weld bags - The simple option for hand packing. Open top, seal on both sides, available from small pastry bags to large loaf bags. No equipment needed.

Wicketted bags - Bags mounted on wire wickets for faster packing. Pull one off, drop the product in, move to the next. Much quicker than fishing bags out of a pile when you’re packing hundreds of loaves. Also work on automatic bagging equipment for higher volumes.

Perforated bags - Essential for crusty bread. Microperforation lets steam escape while the loaf cools, keeping the crust crisp instead of soft and leathery.

Various sizes of clear bakery bread bags for different products - baguettes, loaves, rolls

Paper and Sheet Products

Some products suit paper better than film - whether for practical reasons, presentation, or because your customers prefer it.

Printed greaseproof for wrapping pastries, lining baskets, sandwich wraps, and retail displays. Custom printed with your branding or plain.

Waxed paper where you need moisture resistance - similar applications to greaseproof with better barrier properties.

Siliconised paper for baking - release paper that doesn’t stick to your products.

Film sheets for handling sticky products. Custard slices, iced buns, cream cakes - anything that needs picking up without ruining the finish. Clear film sheets cut to size, so customers can lift products cleanly.

Sustainable Bakery Packaging

Your customers ask about sustainability. Some actively seek out bakeries using eco-friendly packaging. Here’s how the options compare:

MaterialTypeEnd of LifeBest For
NatureFlexCellulose-based filmHome compostableBakeries wanting home-compostable packaging customers can dispose of easily
Biodegradable BOPPModified polypropyleneRecyclable, with biodegradation failsafe if it escapes into the environmentDrop-in replacement for standard BOPP
PLACorn/sugarcane-based filmIndustrially compostable (EN 13432)Bio-based alternative where industrial composting is available
PaperGreaseproof, waxedRecyclable, compostableArtisan presentation, pastries, wraps

All cost more than standard BOPP. Biodegradable BOPP and PLA are drop-in replacements - your packing process doesn’t need to change. NatureFlex may require equipment adjustments but suits bakeries where sustainability is central to the brand.

Not sure which fits your bakery? We can send samples to help you decide.

Barrier Films for Extended Shelf Life

When standard BOPP isn’t enough, barrier films extend shelf life by blocking oxygen and moisture transmission. Essential for biscuits, cakes, and bakery products needing weeks rather than days on shelf.

PVDC coated BOPP - adds oxygen and moisture barrier to standard BOPP clarity. Good for biscuits, crackers, and products sensitive to going soft or stale.

Laminates - multi-layer structures combining barrier, seal, and print layers. PET/PE, BOPP/PE, or structures incorporating AlOx (aluminium oxide) or EVOH for high barrier applications. We can advise on the right construction for your product and target shelf life.

If you’re chasing longer shelf life or your products are going stale before their best-before date, barrier materials are usually the answer.

Quality and Food Safety

All our bakery packaging is food-grade and suitable for direct food contact. We hold BRCGS AA(*) accreditation - the standard major retailers require.

Full batch traceability. Compliance certificates when you need them. If you’re supplying supermarkets or food service chains with audit requirements, we can support that.
