About Our Technical Support

More Than Just a Supplier

We're packaging specialists, not just film merchants. Our technical knowledge comes from four decades of solving real problems on real packaging lines - not from sales training manuals. When you call us with a packaging challenge, you'll speak to people who understand the nuances of film behaviour, equipment setup, and practical implementation.

What We Offer

Most flexible packaging suppliers sell film. We do too - but that’s only part of what we provide. Our technical support helps you get the most from your packaging: the right materials running efficiently on your equipment, meeting your shelf-life and presentation requirements without unnecessary cost or waste.

This isn’t a paid consultancy service. Technical support is included as standard when you work with us. We’d rather spend time helping you get packaging right than dealing with returns and complaints when it goes wrong.

Technical Support Services

Material Selection

Choosing the right film for your application is where most packaging problems start - or are avoided. We help you navigate the options:

We supply BOPP, CPP, polyester, polyethylene, laminates, and specialist films - each with different properties for clarity, stiffness, barrier, sealability, and cost. We’ll recommend the right material for your specific product and equipment.

For sustainability requirements, we can advise on NatureFlex for certified compostability, biodegradable BOPP for environmental biodegradation, and recyclable mono-materials. We’ll tell you what’s genuinely appropriate for your application - not just what sounds good in marketing.

We’ll also help you specify barrier properties (oxygen, moisture, light, aroma) that deliver the shelf life you need without over-engineering, and get pack specifications right first time - thickness, width, core size, treatment levels, seal layer requirements.

Range of flexible packaging film rolls and samples including clear BOPP, metallised, and printed films available for technical specification

Packaging Line Support

Film doesn’t exist in isolation - it needs to run on your equipment. Our support covers equipment troubleshooting (seal strength, film tracking, tension control, static, wrinkling), new line setup, changeover optimisation, and operator guidance on storage, unwinding, and handling.

We work with VFFS (vertical form-fill-seal), HFFS (horizontal form-fill-seal), flow wrap, L-sealers, shrink tunnels, and tray sealers. We’re not tied to any equipment manufacturer, so our advice is based purely on what works - not what we’re trying to sell.

Most issues we can diagnose remotely from a description, samples, or video. When needed, we’ll visit to observe problems firsthand.

On-Site Reviews

For complex challenges or new projects, we’ll visit your site to observe your operation, identify bottlenecks, and recommend practical improvements. This might involve material changes, equipment adjustments, or process refinements.

We also investigate persistent problems - seal failures, unexplained film behaviour, product damage in transit - looking at the full picture of equipment, materials, environment, and handling to identify root causes.

For new product development, we’ll help specify packaging that protects your product, presents it well, and runs efficiently on your equipment.

These visits are focused and practical. We’re not there to write lengthy reports - we’re there to solve problems and improve performance.

Compliance and Sustainability Guidance

Packaging regulations are increasingly complex. We help you navigate them in plain English.

Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR)

The EPR scheme requires producers to report on packaging and pay fees based on recyclability. We can help with the packaging side - explaining how different materials are classified, what affects recyclability fees, and how material choices impact your obligations. For the compliance and reporting side, we can point you toward the right resources or compliance schemes if you need more specialist support.

Plastic Packaging Tax

The UK Plastic Packaging Tax applies to packaging with less than 30% recycled content. We advise on which of our products are exempt (cellulose films like NatureFlex and cellophane), recycled content options for films that attract the tax, and cost-benefit analysis of different approaches.

Recyclability

OPRL guidance, retailer requirements, consumer expectations - recyclability is increasingly important. We can advise on which materials are genuinely recyclable in UK infrastructure, mono-material alternatives to multi-layer laminates, polyolefin laminates now classified as recyclable, and what claims you can legitimately make about your packaging.

We give practical, honest advice. If a “sustainable” option won’t actually work for your application, we’ll say so. If your current packaging is already appropriate, we won’t push unnecessary changes.

When to Call Us

Call us when you’re specifying a new pack - getting the specification right first time avoids expensive trials and production problems.

Call us when your packaging isn’t performing - seal failures, film defects, shelf-life issues, equipment problems. We’ve solved similar challenges before.

Call us when you’re changing materials - switching from one film to another (e.g., moving to a more sustainable option) and want to ensure a smooth transition.

Call us when regulations are confusing you - EPR, Plastic Tax, recyclability claims. We’ll translate the requirements into practical action.

Call us when you want a second opinion - not sure if your current packaging is right? We’re happy to review specifications and suggest alternatives.

Our Approach

We’re not management consultants producing lengthy reports. We’re packaging specialists who solve practical problems.

When you call with an issue, you’ll speak to someone who understands film behaviour, equipment operation, and food packaging requirements. Often we can diagnose problems from a phone description. When we can’t, we’ll ask for samples, photos, or video. If that doesn’t resolve it, we’ll visit.

Our advice is independent. We’re not tied to any equipment manufacturer or film producer. We recommend what works for your application - even if that’s not something we supply. We’d rather give honest advice that builds a long-term relationship than make a quick sale that causes problems.

And because we supply materials, we can implement our recommendations. We’re not leaving you with a report and a list of suppliers to contact. We can provide the films, test them on your equipment, and support you through production.

What It Costs

Technical support is included when you buy materials from us. There’s no hourly rate, no consultancy fee, no charge for phone advice or site visits (within reason).

For major projects - comprehensive audits, extended NPD support, complex trials - we’ll discuss scope upfront. But for routine technical support, material selection guidance, and problem-solving, the cost is built into our relationship, not billed separately.

Working With Us

We’re a family business, not a corporate consultancy. You’ll deal with the same people each time, who know your operation and remember your challenges.

Our technical knowledge comes from four decades in flexible packaging - manufacturing, converting, supplying, and troubleshooting. We’ve seen most problems before and solved them. If we haven’t, we have manufacturing partners who can contribute specialist expertise.

If you’ve got a packaging challenge - or you’re just not sure whether your current specification is right - get in touch. We’re happy to talk through your requirements, even if you’re not currently buying from us.
